Some minor news stories came out this morning so here I am putting them all together for you.
- Penn State's season opener against Syracuse from MetLife Stadium will kickoff at 3:30 p.m. on August 31st. Good news for everyone who will be hung over at Collyer's place in the city.
- PennLive told us about a few changes to numbers as Malcolm Willis will wear #1 for the 2013 season and Trevor Williams will take over the former's #10.
- Ryan Devlin has been named Director of Player Development for the basketball team after finding a lot of success on the junior college circuit. He's done a lot with a little at those smaller schools so development at a Division I school may be right up his alley.
- Finally, another story about the potential Flyers-Penguins game at Beaver Stadium surfaced this morning, this time from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette who said that high-level officials from both teams have been in talks with the NHL. WJAC-TV in Johnstown originally "broke" the story a few days ago. You can also read the SB Nation account here.
I've been meaning to get to the hockey story since I talked with Associate AD Joe Battista on Wednesday night but just hadn't found the time. In an email conversation, Battista told me that no formal talks with any teams had taken place from Penn State's end and that no commitments to any groups (teams, owners, etc.) had been made. The school was still in the exploratory phase and still researching whether a game at the stadium is even feasible considering parking and "winterizing" the stadium like they do every year as had been reported before. So, don't put too much stock into these stories just yet.
