Only Mark D'Onofrio Until Penn State Football

38 days until Syracuse.

USA TODAY Sports

Mark D'Onofrio was not your typical Penn State linebacker. He was often reckless and obnoxious on the field--but he could sure could play, racking up 11 sacks in his redshirt sophomore season. His junior season was marred with enough issues to make Joe Paterno bench him for the first five games--you know what, just read this great Reading Eagle article from August 22, 1991 on Google News. It's better than anything I could spew out about a player I never saw.

Today, D'Onofrio is the defensive coordinator at Miami (FL), partnering with head coach and fellow alumnus Al Golden to try and revive a program once known for its sometimes reckless, often obnoxious, and above all outstanding play. Seems like a perfect fit.
