Finally, our chance to be ELITE!

Penn State AD Dave Joyner and Virginia Tech AD Jim Weaver, who played and coached in Happy Valley, announced today that the Nittany Lions and Hokies would meet for the first times ever in 2022 and 2023 in a home-and-home series. Penn State will hit the road for Blacksburg on September 17, 2022 and Tech will make the return trip that same weekend in 2023.

Statement from Jim Weaver:

"I am very pleased that we have been able to negotiate a home and home football series with Penn State. I think this will be a series that our fans will look forward to since this is another Big Ten team. Over the next 10 years, we will be playing Ohio State, Wisconsin, Michigan and Penn State."

Statement from Dave Joyner:

"We are excited to be able to announce this football series with Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech is an opponent our alumni and fans have been asking about adding to the schedule. I am very appreciative of the efforts of Jim Weaver to make this long-awaited match-up come to fruition."

Virginia Tech comes into 2013 after a season which saw them fail to reach double-digit wins for the first time in eight years. They are normally among the class of the ACC and unless there is a drastic shift, that will hopefully remain the same a decade from now.

What may be interesting to see is if Frank Beamer is still patrolling the sidelines for the Hokies come 2022 when he will be 75 years of age. Most consider him the elder statesman of college football coaches now that Joe Paterno and Bobby Bowden are out of the ranks. If not, it is almost certain that defensive coordinator Bud Foster will still be at the helm.

Tech has a 3-2 record all-time against Big Ten teams and a 28-10 record against teams from the Commonwealth. For more information, check out the Penn State and Virginia Tech press releases.
