Penn State Recruiting Notes (9.11.13)

I felt like you guys were really missing my crootin' notes.

This recap is going to have a little bit of everything for you.  Some updates on how our current commits are faring in their high school seasons, a bunch of links, as well as notes about who has attended/who is attending which games, and more.  So let's dive right in.

2014 Commits Lighting Up the Field

De'Andre Thompkins was fantastic yet again.  While he had only 22 rushing yards on 3 carries, and 47 yards receiving on 3 catches, 2 of those catches went for touchdowns.  He also continued to completely rip apart any kick coverage team in his path, returning one of his kickoffs, 79 yards.  Not to mention a casual 85 yard interception return for a touchdown.  You know, casual.

Chris Godwin showed off his athleticism by throwing a 31 yard touchdown, on a 3rd and long play.

Michael O'Connor was effective for IMG Academy and coach Chris Weinke, throwing for 127 yards and 2 touchdowns, on 10 for 20 passing.  IMG was able to pound the ball with Alabama commit, Bo Scarbrough, so O'Connor didn't have to do much else on offense.

Nick Scott rushed for an absurd 278 yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries, in a 39-25 win.

Troy Apke caught a modest 3 passes for 26 yards, which I'll attribute to his starting QB Kellan Stout completing only 10 passes in the game.

Who's Visiting?  And When?

There was a solid list of future recruits who attended this weekend's game against Eastern Michigan.

I was able to reach Jake Cooper for a few comments asking about the game.  He told me that it was an unbelievable time, and that the student section was crazy.  He was also shocked when I told him that it wasn't that loud.  Just wait until Michigan Jake, just wait until Michigan.

As far as this weekend's game goes, the following players will be visiting...

  • Noah Beh
  • Nick Scott
  • Alex Hornibrook (QB) (Mallvern (PA)) (2015)
  • Alex Malzone (QB) (Brother Rice (MI)) (2015)
  • Justin Hilliard (St. Xavier (OH)) (2015)
So basically, we have a bunch of current commits coming, along with a bunch of high profile recruits for 2015, Justin Hilliard being the biggest.  While it will take a lot to get him here in the end, the fact that he's coming here this weekend is huge.  Especially considering he cancelled a trip to Kentucky (Who keeps recruiting well) to do it.
