It's officially day five of the coaching search, and exactly two years to the day after Bill O'Brien was named the fifteenth head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions. Who will be his successor? As of publishing, that's still very much unknown--though it does seem the possibilities have narrowed.
Yesterday, Miami coach Al Golden publicly took himself out of the running, announcing he was "not a candidate" for any open position. Whether that was Golden's or Penn State's choice will likely never be known, but that strikes down a favorite of many (including many here at BSD).
One of the reasons some are speculating that Golden was no longer in the mix is the firing by the Texans of former head coach Mike Munchak; it was reported that he was to interview on Sunday. Except:
Just talked to former #Titans coach Mike Munchak just a bit ago. He did not interview at Penn State today. Cleaned out his office at STSP

Wyatt, a reporter on the Titans' beat, faced fierce criticism on twitter later last night after this tweet surfaced from ESPN's Chris Mortensen:
Just to be sure - as scheduled, Mike Munchak absolutely interviewed with Penn State today in Nashville.

Mort only tweeted once, but it forced Wyatt to back track some, and label Munchak a liar without labeling him a liar.
Not surprised Munchak would deny it. Penn State probably told him to keep quiet. He quickly changed subject #Titans

That bodes well, doesn't it?
In James Franklin news, the current (for now) Vanderbilt coach will be all over ESPN today as part of their BCS National Championship coverage. Supposedly he's still very much in the mix for the Penn State job, so tune in if you want to see what the Nittany Lions might be getting...or might be missing out on.
