Sunshine Has Arrived
In case you missed it, QB Tommy Stevens officially committed to Penn State earlier this week. Tommy is a dual-threat guy who should fit very well into the offense that Franklin and Donovan seem to favor. Tommy and I are going to talk this weekend about the commitment, so look for a post early next week all about it. For now though, go check out what he said in talking with Steve Wiltfong, over at 247Sports.
A New Offer for Shareef Miller
DE Shareef Miller (Philadelphia, PA) has been on Penn State's radar for some time now. As a Philadelphia guy, he naturally caught the staff's attention as another potential piece of the puzzle to #DominateTheState. There was some concern with Miller's grades for quite some time, but it appears that all of that has been straightened out at this point. Very recently, Miller stated that Penn State was his top school for the time being, leading many to predict a commitment in no time. Things may change a bit now, though.
Just got Offer by the University of Miami officially #Blessed
— Reef#⃣7⃣ (@MillerShareef) November 14, 2014
While Miami certainly isn't what it has been in the past, it's still nothing to ignore. Miller has taken his time in the process to this point, so there's no reason to think he won't at least try to make it down to check out what Al Golden and the squad have to offer. I'll do my best to keep you updated on Miller and his travels.
A 2016 Quarterback Nearing a Decision?
2016 QB target, Jake Zembiec, had an interesting night on twitter this past Wednesday. After tweeting about a big announcement coming up in an hour's time, he deleted the tweet after a little more than an hour had past. There are a few things that this could have meant, but most likely he was ready to announce a commitment or a top group. Considering the fact that he is coming off of a great visit to Michigan State and is still very high on Penn State, it can be assumed that the final group will include at least those two. I'm working to get in contact with Jake to learn more about the situation.
Connecticut: The New Penn State Pipeline?
I spoke with 2016 recruit, Koby Quansah (West Hartford, CT) last night. Quansah is a composite four star outside linebacker who has been hearing a little bit from Penn State recently. He told me that Coach Chaos was there to see him play recently, as Spencer is originally from Hartford, himself. Spencer and Quansah have spoken to each other a few times, although no offer has come of it just yet. Quansah currently holds offers from Duke, Boston College, UConn, Rutgers, Rhode Island, Syracuse, and Maryland, and is slowly picking up steam. He camped at Penn State this past summer as well, which gave the staff a good set of baseline data to work from in his recruitment. One thing that he told me Spencer noticed when watching him play, was how much bigger he was than in the summer. Koby loves a lot of things about Penn State, including the focus on academics and the amazing fan support the team gets. He's not sure exactly when a visit back to State College would occur, but it's a visit he's very interested in taking.
Dwayne Haskins and the Power of the Internet
2016 QB Dwayne Haskins loves twitter, as many recruits do these days. A few days ago, he made waves by saying that he was thinking about heading out west for college. Immediately, messageboards lit up, speculating if he was serious, where he would go, and everything in between. Then, in true Haskins form, he tweeted that location doesn't matter. What does that mean? Who knows!!
In news that could be somewhat related though, Malik Henry, the top QB in the 2016 class, verbally committed to Florida State (Dude was #TalkingBoutTheNoles like crazy), which could cause another domino effect in the class. Not only could other 2016 quarterbacks feel pressure to make decisions and claim their stake in a school before someone else does, but it also ensures that another one of Haskins' top options, Notre Dame, does not yet have a 2016 quarterback. Just something to watch for down the line.
Pat Chambers Doing Work
If you didn't read any of the amazing coverage we had of national signing day for college basketball, go do that right now. I'll even give you the link, right here. It's fine, I'll wait. Read that before moving on.
Other Tidbits
- 2015 CB Garrett Taylor apparently has Penn State and LSU at the top of his list right now. As a reminder, he will be visiting Penn State for the Michigan State game. He was at LSU this past weekend.
- Four star OT Isaiah Prince has named most of his official visits. There have been rumblings that Penn State may earn one of the remaining visits.
