Don't Fall Behind Time with Pickin' Nits

We got an extra hour of sleep, but we don't stop.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

I'm going to come right out and say this: I think the fact we get an hour of sleep for one night is the most overrated day on the calendar. I hate when it gets completely dark at 5 p.m. and then you're sitting around all night like you think you actually did something productive.

I'd rather have the BCS and a fully functioning time system than this garbage excuse of a day.

But that means our fellow Nits were able to get a little siesta time in order to withstand this final stretch coming up.

Cross Country

The men came away with a third place finish behind two top-15 performances. Second Team All-Big Ten runners were men on a mission as senior Matt Fischer finished eighth and junior Glen Burkhardt finished 11th for the Nittany Lions.

The third place finish behind No. 6 WIsconsin and No. 14 Michigan is the highest for Penn State since 2000 when they also finished third that year.

Freshman Elizabeth Chikotas was two seconds off from finishing with a second team All-Big Ten time. Penn State finished seventh placing four runners in the top-40.

Penn State will host the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional at the Blue-White Golf Course on Nov. 14.

Oh, and I ran 22:42 at the THON 5k this weekend. I'm very disappointed in my time, but I'd like to thank my lord and savior. #Blessed

This Week Ahead: Rest up everyone, 11 days until NCAA Tournament time. Not the real NCAA Tournament, but this one.

Field Hockey

There was only 6:26 remaining when senior Laura Gebhart scored the game-winning goal to give Penn State the 2-1 victory to end the regular season. The Nittany Lions finished the regular season 14-4 ending the season winning nine of their last 11 games.

Senior Taylor Herold is still not human, per sources. She had the other goal to take down the Wildcats.

This Week Ahead: Penn State hosts Michigan State in the first round of the Big Ten tournament on Thursday in Ann Arbor.

Soccer

The men dropped another tight Big Ten overtime game, this week coming from the hands of No. 20 Northwestern. The Wildcats outshot Penn State 19-14 en route to their 2-1 win in Evanston.

Senior Mikey Minutillo scored in the 38th minute, but sophomore Mike Roberge finished the deal with his goal in the 109th minute.

Freshman Frannie Crouse ended the regular season for the women with her lone goal to take down Maryland 1-0. It was her team leading ninth goal of the season.

This Week Ahead: The men finish their regular season at home on Wednesday against Akron while the women embark on another Big Ten title on Wednesday in West Lafayette, Ind. against Northwestern.

Women's Ice Hockey

WELCOME TO THE SHOW WOMEN"S ICE HOCKEY. I forgot to put them in the rotation for the Nits, but they ight so far this year. Already 3-4-3, they are one win away from matching last year's win total.

Sophomore Amy Peterson has already totaled half of the team goals with 8 on the young season. Freshman Hannah Ehresmann and junior Celine Whitlinger have shared time in the crease each with five starts a piece.

Just know where Minnetonka is on your state of Minnesota on your map. Seems to be where the pipeline is starting on the way to Happy Valley.

This Week Ahead: Penn State travels to the toothpaste factory on Friday and Saturday. Bring me back samples! (Or at least the miniature tubes you get at the dentist.)

Women's Volleyball

Business as usual on Tuesday at Ohio State. 3-0.

"                                " Friday at Ohio State. 3-0.

This Week Ahead: #CHOPnation comes to town Friday night and Maryland follows suit on Saturday.
