I know the title was a bit on the facetious side, but I'm truly running out of adjectives to describe Penn State's dominance on the mat.  The match started off at 157 and it wasn't very long until Penn State had a commanding lead as they rolled out to a 26-3 lead heading into the break.  After Dylan Alton started things off with an 8-3 regular decision, the Lions next four matches wouldn't go the distance.

Random Observations

Cael Sanderson was able to juggle the lineup a bit because this match wasn't going to be in doubt.  As we've speculated, Conaway had no problem bumping down to 125 and easily handled Brenan Lyon for a 15-4 major decision. It gave Conaway a chance to wrestle at his more natural weight and it gave Sanderson the opportunity to give Megatron the night off.  It's just too bad there's no place for Conaway in the lineup.

Bonus Points

David Taylor and Ed Ruth must have had somewhere important to be because they were on the mat for exactly 2 minutes and 31 seconds combined.  Morgan McIntosh took his time getting the pin in 4:23. Zpain enjoyed dishing out punishment before pinning his opponent in 4:42, and Matt Brown used his Hulk Hands to tech fall Sparty's Nick Kaczanowski 18-3 as time ran out.

Decisions, decisions

Brothers Dylan and Andrew Alton were held to similar regular decision scores of 8-3 and 9-5 respectively.  At this point getting matches in is the most important thing for the Altons, March is coming in fast.  However, we'll probably see Beitz wrestle Michigan in place of Andrew Sunday afternoon as a precautionary measure.  It was good to see Jimmy Gulibon get another dual win  Gulibon started out strong getting a takedown just seven seconds into the bout.  He added 2 more takedowns a reversal and a riding time point with over 2 minutes of riding time.  He was looking for the major decision but ran out of time.

So Close

I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but Penn State's depth is just ridiculous.  At Heavyweight, Nick Ruggear took the mat for Jon Gingrich who was supposed to wrestle for Jimmy Lawson.  That's right, Penn State's third-string heavyweight took on 7th-ranked Mike McClure and had McClure tied 1-1 at the beginning of the 3rd period.  He would end up giving up a 5-1 decision but he did an admirable job considering he was thrust into the lineup at a late notice.  I'm not sure what was wrong with Gingrich, hopefully he'll be back tomorrow afternoon.

Up Next: at Michigan, Sunday, Feb. 2, 3:30 p.m.
