Rebuiding Discussion, the Quick Fix, and a Call for Patience

I was recently cruising around the SB Nation mothership and stumbled over to On The Banks. I figured I would read a few good LoL Buttgers pieces and peace out when I came upon the article The Fallacy of the Quick Hoops Rebuild. To me it was extremely interesting because I think it mirrors our situation. In fact looking at the numbers over the last 20 years, PSU has had a more successful team than Rutgers. But of course that is basically saying that our piece of whale crap is floating just a little bit higher off the bottom of the ocean floor.

So what is the answer then? It has got to be the word that no fan really enjoys, "patience". I know that some see me as a Chambers apologist, but the reality of the situation is that this program has been historically horrific for many, many years and that change will not happen overnight. Chances are that you are looking at minimum a 5 year process. Before some people get completely irate with that statement, let me be clear that by year 5 we must be in the top half of the B1G and tournament bound otherwise it is time to seek a change. Any change earlier than that will just cause the problems we have to repeat. There has to be consistency for recruits to trust in the development of the program.

That being said, the optimist in me is excited about the direction of this program and where it is going. There is a Philly pipeline that has never been there before. Adding DA to the staff will also open up the program to the DMV area where there has never been a presence before either. If someone just wants to look at the black and white of wins and losses, thats their right. But if we are honest, I think that we should all be able to agree that this team is in a much better condition now than 4 years ago. I for one am looking forward to seeing what this team can do next year.
