Penn State went undefeated last week, the first time they've done that in the B1G since February 2012. A famous win at Ohio State and a comfortable home victory against Purdue were sparked by D.J. Newbill, who was rewarded by the conference by being named co-Player of the Week along with Northwestern's Drew Crawford this morning. Newbill hit clutch shot after clutch shot against the Buckeyes, including the game winner right in Aaron Craft's eye, and scored 19 in yesterday's win over Purdue.
It might've been tough to imagine this happening just a few weeks ago, when Newbill was ejected in the second half at Illinois after a confrontation with Kendrick Nunn. He followed that up with a zero point, zero rebound, zero assist and five foul showing against Minnesota. But the Nittany Lions have showed some resolve in the past two weeks, going 3-0 in that span, and the junior guard has been the driving force behind the turnaround. Newbill ranks fifth in the B1G in scoring at 17.6 points per game on 47% shooting, both improvements from last season. Penn State will travel to East Lansing to face Michigan State on Thursday.
