Penn State Signing Day 2014

BSD is ready...are you?

Justin K. Aller

February 5 may be just another Wednesday...but for football recruitniks, it's like Christmas: that glorious day when caring is creepy, when watching the twitter feeds of 17-year-olds isn't that strange, and when fax machines are suddenly back in vogue. Signing Day, y'all!

What BSD is expecting on Signing Day

In short? Not much unexpected. The big news came today, when rumors abounded that DE Lloyd Tubman (considered a soft verbal) essentially decommitted from the Nittany Lions. That frees up one single scholarship for this class--and James Franklin may or may not pull a recruiting rabbit out of his hat (if he does pull one out, my money's on Montae Nicholson--yes, still--or Southern Miss commit Torrance Brown). If there's no interesting news on signing day, don't fret; there could be additional players who don't sign right away, or Franklin could just save the scholarship to use on an early enrollee for the 2015 class.

But then...what is Penn State doing on Signing Day?

Waiting by the fax machine, natch, for all of the letters of intent to come in from the committed players on their list. We'll have all of that news as the letters are sent in, so stick with BSD throughout the day for news and reflection.

At five pm, the coaching staff will be putting on a show--joined by Mike Mauti and LaVar Arrington--hosting an event at the BJC, introducing Nittany Nation to the 2014 recruiting class. Is this a new regime, or what?

In the meantime...

The mothership's got a profile of the Penn State recruiting class (pre-Tubman decommit, and pre-DB Christian Campbell's commitment). We at BSD have already profiled all of the early enrollees in the 2014 (technically 2013) class: Michael O'Connor, De'Andre ThompkinsTarow BarneyAntoine White, and Chasz Wright.

As for the BSD staff? Well, we'll be feverishly watching twitter...waiting and hoping...updating our story stream...and watching some more.
