Chris Godwin verbally committed to Penn State back on April 23, 2013. The Middletown, DE product is one of the prized commits in this 2014 class, coming in as the highest ranked player in Delaware (According to 247Sports). Godwin comes in as one of the dynamic group of receivers in this 2014 class, joining De'Andre Thompkins, Saeed Blacknall, and Troy Apke. All four have the potential to be stars in college, although Godwin certainly stands out as one with a major chance to get early playing time.
With a 6'1" frame paired with a 4.48 40 time, Godwin possess a unique combination of physical tools. He is most likely destined to play out on the numbers (hopefully opposite of Blacknall when all is said and done). He is by no means a burner, but he plays very strong. He is skilled at using his body to create space to make the catch, and has the raw power to go up and rip away a 50/50 ball when he needs to. As Bud Elliot wrote in his scouting report, he thinks of Godwin as Justin Blackmon type receiver. I agree with this, and see a little bit of Anquan Boldin in him as well. Godwin will be a great asset to Christian Hackenberg and Michael O'Connor, and should be a very reliable third down option throughout his Penn State career.
