Only Tarow Barney Until Penn State Football

The JuCo defensive tackle transfer is welcomed to the countdown.

This is not Tarow Barney. But I couldn't find any legally useable photos of him, so here's Tamba Hali.

Originally from Senatobia, MS, Tarow Barney played out the first part of his college career at Northwest Mississippi Community College. He chose to transfer to Penn State over 11 other schools, including Arizona State, Iowa State, Illinois, and "Transfer U" Kansas State.

Barney will join the defensive tackle group that is not particularly deep, and will get a chance to prove he belongs right away. Anthony Zettel and Austin Johnson appear to be the starters for the time being, but Barney (along with our cover boy for day 93) drew nice reviews during and after spring practices. Barney was already expected to come in and contribute right away as a Junior College transfer, but it's certainly encouraging to hear that he started off on the right foot.

The other half of the recruiting tag team that is writing for We Are! 2014 is Tim Tolley. I won't give away everything he said about Barney, but I'll give you a small sneak peek.

"With his strength and explosiveness at the point of attack, Barney could push for a starting spot sooner, rather than later."

Penn State has a long tradition of producing elite defensive tackles. Barney could be the next to join that list of stars. 91 more days, everyone. Also, quick shout out to other recent #91's, Tamba Hali and Jared Odrick.
