Bill Belton and Zach Zwinak Named to Doak Walker Watch List

The PSU seniors are candidates for the top running back in the country

Watch List season continued today with two more Nittany Lions recognized. Senior running backs Bill Belton and Zach Zwinak are officially candidates for the Doak Walker Award, presented to the nation's top back.

Zwinak of course emerged on the scene in the 2012 Temple game, eventually rolling up 1,000 yards and 6 touchdowns over the season's final 9 games. Despite problems with fumbling in 2013, and talented competition from Belton and Akeel Lynch, the senior from Frederick, Maryland nearly topped the 1,000 yard mark again in 2013 (989 yards), and finished the season exceptionally strong with 4 straight 100+ yard games.

Bill Belton entered the 2012 season as the starter, but a high ankle sprain suffered early on in the opener versus Ohio derailed his season early. Back at 100% in 2013, Belton turned into the perfect compliment to Zwinak, with 803 yards and 5 touchdowns, while catching 15 passes for 158 yards and 2 more scores.

The senior duo is a key part of what BTN's Tom Dienhart called the conference's top backfield, along with sophomore Akeel Lynch, and some guy named Hackenberg.
