Only Duffy Cobbs Until Penn State Football

BSD counts down to kickoff.

Matthew O'Haren-USA TODAY Sports

Defensive back Duffy Cobbs played on both of Joe Paterno’s National Championship teams in the 1980s.  Cobbs walked on to the Nittany Lions squad and began his career as a wide receiver, but eventually earned a scholarship.  He may have been small, but on defense Cobbs specialized in intimidating receivers, particularly the Miami Hurricanes’ Michael Irvin, who was kind of sad after the 1987 Fiesta Bowl.

Cobbs had nine interceptions on his career, including one of Vinny Testaverde’s five during the ’86 National Championship/Ultimate Battle of Good vs. Evil Sponsored By NBC.

41 days until Penn State football.
