The day that many have been waiting for appears to be here. Reports surfaced from multiple outlets this afternoon that Penn State will hold a press conference at noon on Saturday to discuss a personnel decision in the Athletic Department, with new University President Dr. Eric Barron in attendance. The Compensation Committee will be meeting prior to the press conference, with all indications being the new Athletic Director will be hired.
No name has yet to be linked to these stories, but previous names have included Northwestern AD Jim Phillips, and LSU AD Joe Alleva, who is a graduate of Lehigh.
The Centre Daily Times reports that all coaches and staff in the Athletic Department received a letter from Dr. Barron informing them of the pending hire, calling that individual their top choice of the hiring committee.
As was anticipated, David Joyner announced his retirement as AD earlier this summer, in conjunction with the hiring of Dr. Barron as the new University President. Joyner took over the on an interim basis in the wake of the Sandusky scandal, before being named to permanently head the department.
