Senior defender Whitney Church has been named to the Hermann Trophy watch list for the second straight year, looking once again to gain the most prestigious honor in college soccer, awarded by the Missouri Athletic Club. Church will look to become the second Nittany Lion woman to win the award. Former Penn Stater Christie Welsh took home the award in 2001.
Church has been named to the all-Big Ten Freshman team, First team and Second team in 2011, 2012 and 2013 respectively. She added the Big Ten Defender of the Year Award to her trophy case in 2012. Last season, she logged the second-most minutes on the team and scored a career-high four goals.
The Penn State women's soccer team, only two years removed from reaching the finals of the College Cup, will look to earn their 20th straight NCAA bid in 2014, starting with a tilt against West Virginia on Aug. 22nd.
