Big Ten Preview: Week Two

New, 12 comments

Each of the Big Ten conference contests in bloggerific preview.

Duane Burleson

Back from Ireland on little sleep without seeing much of last week's games, let's preview some B1G games!

Western Kentucky @ Illinois

When: Saturday, 12pm ET

Line: Illinois -6

Over/Under: 66

The Fighting Beckmans managed a thrilling victory over Division I-AA FCS Youngstown State last week, good enough to rank number 6 on Tim's all-time best win list at Illinois. This week, Western Kentucky has an amazing mascot and is currently not Division I-AA FCS, might be too much to overcome for Illinois.

McNeese State @ Nebraska

When: Saturday, 12pm ET

Line: Off

Over/Under: Off

Last week this happened for Nebraska:

which was neat. This week the Huskers play their Division I-AA FCS opponent this week in what should be a bloodbath, so let's check in on Twitter dot com.

Central Michigan @ Purdue

When: Saturday, 12pm ET

Line: Purdue -3.5

Over/Under: 54

I saw Let's Be Cops, one of the characters played football at a place called Purdue. Apparently, this "Purdue" is a real thing and they actually do play football there. They played a directional Michigan school last week and they play a directional Michigan school again this week, might be the same one, not sure. Anyways, Purdue won last week, directional Michigan will be looking for revenge.

Howard @ Rutgers

When: Saturday, 12pm ET

Line: Off

Over/Under: Off

The unstoppable juggernaut Big Ten Powerhouse Rutgers continues their inevitable march to the national championship against this week's sacrifice is the Howard University Buffalo Bills, just another body swallowed by the Jersey swampland. They will be missed.

Western Illinois @Wisconsin

When: Saturday, 12pm ET

Line: Off

Over/Under: Off

Who's injured? What's going on? Let's ask Gary Andersen. He doesn't know. Let's ask the head coach instead. Oh, it's Gary Andersen. Yeah, he still doesn't know. I think perhaps Bill O'Brien may have broken Wisconsin on his way out the door. Badgers should be able to get themselves right this week.

Northern Illinois @ Northwestern

When: Saturday, 3:30pm ET

Line: Northwestern -7

Over/Under: 58

SBNation's Northern Illinois blog folded at the end of last season, now Pat Fitzgerald has to rely on Hustle Belt to scout the Huskies this week. Perhaps Northwestern can at least manage to wear the correct wristbands this game. Small steps, but not enough for a Wildcat victory.

Middle Tennessee State @ Minnesota

When: Saturday, 3:30pm ET

Line: Minnesota -16

Over/Under: 50

I continue to really like Jerry Kill and what he's doing at Minnesota. That is all.

Ball State @ Iowa

When: Saturday, 3:30pm ET

Line: Iowa -17.5

Over/Under: 52

Hawkeyes take on David Letterman U and boom goes the dynamite.

Maryland @ USF

When: Saturday, 3:30pm ET

Line: Maryland -12.5

Over/Under: 53

Maryland should probably win against South Florida, unless, of course, the Bulls finally unleash Steven Bench. The Terps better pray it doesn't come to that, or they'll be in big, big trouble.

#7 Michigan State @ #3 Oregon

When: Saturday, 6:30pm ET

Line: Oregon -12

Over/Under: 56

This week's referendum game for the B1G, win and the Spartans look good for the playoffs, lose and the entire conference is terrible and should probably just abandon football entirely. Stanford has shown the blueprint to defeat Oregon and Michigan State is perfectly capable of executing it.

Michigan @ #16 Notre Dame

When: Saturday, 7:30pm ET

Line: Notre Dame -3.5

Over/Under: 56

In the last match-up of Notre Dame and Michigan, will the meteor finally get the victory? Should be a track meet, not sure which of these two can muster up more defense to pull out the victory.

Virginia Tech @ #8 Ohio State

When: Saturday, 8pm ET

Line: Ohio State -11

Over/Under: 47

Is Ohio State elite enough? Magic 8 Ball says, "Reply hazy please try again." Opening the season against Navy reveals very little. Virginia Tech played Division I-AA FCS William and Mary, which revealed even less. This might as well be the opening game of both their seasons.
