Penn State played a basketball game today. They lost in overtime to whatever a "Purdue" is. We're still waiting on an official definition for what that is. All we can confirm is that it is some sort of conglomeration of yet another collection of college-aged male athletes who have defeated the Penn State Basketball team.
In reality, it's pretty amazing how many different ways the Lions have found to lose games. They say that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, expecting different results. So the good news, is that Penn State isn't insane, because at least they vary their styles of losses. Or are they? Maybe they're insane for continuing to agree to play basketball games within the Big Ten Conference, expecting something other than a loss. Or are we, the fans, the insane ones for continuing to tune in to these games, expecting something other than a loss? Or is Penn State itself, insane? For continually underfunding and not caring about Penn State Basketball, and expecting something other than losing seasons? These are the questions. Please discuss in the comments.
What I'm really trying to say here, is that Penn State is bad at basketball, and I don't want to talk about them.
Four Factors Analysis
Team | Possessions | PPP | eFG% | OReb% | TO% | FT Rate |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Penn State | 72 | 1.06 | 53.6% | 36.4% | 23.5% | 37.5% |
Purdue | - | 1.16 | 56.9% | 42.4% | 22.1% | 50.0% |
These numbers confirm the fact that Penn State, did in fact play today.
Player of the Game- DJ Newbill
May he and Tim Frazier be justly united in the NBA one day to show off what they can do as a part of a real team.

Looking Ahead
Penn State Basketball will once again foster its own insanity (I decided that everyone involved in this is insane) by trying to defeat this guy.
Wait, just kidding. Wrong Spartans. They'll play Michigan State on Wednesday at 7:00PM. And while those Spartans won't kick DJ down an endless well (probably), Penn State will be up against something similar to what these 300 Spartans faced. God bless you if you watch this game.
