I love that Coach Franklin was beat by his newest verbal commitment in breaking the news. Although, I wonder if Twitter was just thrown off by the 2nd such tweet in about 4 hours.
Shareef Miller was one of Penn State's primary 2015 targets from a very early stage in early 2014. What seemed like a lock in the spring took something of a detour over the summer as PSU backed off, possibly while Shareef worked to improve his grades. With the academic house in order, the Lions refocused on the player 247 ranks as the 12th best player in Pennsylvania.
Like today's earlier commitment, Robert Windsor, a late offer appeared to at the very least slow the process down. New Florida Gators coach Jim McElwain and his staff offered Miller earlier this month, and as recently as earlier this week it appeared a visit to Gainesville was in order. That visit is certainly not happening now, as things have come full circle with Shareef pledging to be a Nittany Lion.
Outlook:
It's not hard to see why the staff was very high on Shareef as a football player for over a year now. He has the type of athleticism that you love to see from a defensive end. His 6'5, 220 lbs. will need to get bigger and stronger before he becomes a regular contributor in the Big 10. I would expect him to redshirt the 2015 season if all goes to plan to do just that, and be ready to step in in the fall of 2016.
Shareef joins Ryan Bucholz, and possibly Kamonte Carter at defensive end in this class, although you may see Carter slide inside before it's done.

Welcome to Penn State, Shareef!
