Before the start of the 2015 season, Carl Nassib had never started a football game at any level. Just a few short months later, Nassib is being named as a finalist for just about any major college football defensive award you can imagine. Ted Hendricks Award
Who is the Award for?
The Ted Hendricks Award is given annually to the nation's top defensive end.
Who is Ted Hendricks and why does he have an award named after him?
The Ted Hendricks Award is named in honor of college football’s first three-time first-team All-American. As a defensive end at the University of Miami, Ted used his agility, height and reach to block passes and kicks, force interceptions and pressure quarterbacks and running backs. He roamed the front line, read plays and blitzed on impulse, completely transforming the way the defensive end position was played. His professional career spanned 15 years and 215 consecutive games. It included four Super Bowl victories, eight Pro Bowl selections and inductions into the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame. It is in the spirit of Ted Hendricks’ aggressive style of play, winning attitude and determination that the Defensive End of the Year Award for college football’s premier defensive end is presented.

The list of finalists also include DeForest Buckner of Oregon, Shilique Calhoun of Michigan State, Myles Garrett of Texas A&M, Shaq Lawson of Clemson and Emmanuel Ogbah of Oklahoma State.
When is the award presented?
The winner of the Hendricks Award will be announced Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Lott IMPACT Trophy
Who is the award for?
The award is given to a distinguished young men represent the qualities embodied by Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott – Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
Who is Ronnie Lott and why does he have an award named after him?
Ronnie Lott was one of the most feared defenders to ever to play the game. In addition to being arguably the greatest safety to ever strap on a pair of shoulder pads, Lott was well-known for his incredible toughness and leadership abilities.
Who is Nassib competing with?
Other finalists are Jeremy Cash of Duke, Tyler Matakevich of Temple and Joshua Perry of Ohio State.

Bednarik Award
Who is the award for?
The award is given annually to the best defensive player in college football.
Who is Chuck Bendarik and why does he have an award named after him?
Chuck Bednarik, former standout at Penn and with the Philadelphia Eagles, is a member of both the College Football Hall of Fame's Class of '69 and the NFL Hall of Fame's Class of '67.
Who is Nassib competing with?
Temple’s Tyler Matakevich and Alabama’s Reggie Ragland are also finalists.

Burlsworth Trophy
Who is the award for?
The Burlsworth Trophy is given annually to the most outstanding player in college football who began his career as a walk-on.
Who is Brandon Burlsworth and why does he have an award named after him?
The Burlsworth Trophy is named in honor of Brandon Burlsworth. Without one D1 scholarship offer, Brandon walked on to the Razorback team in 1994, worked his way to being a three-year starter and was eventually named an All-American in 1998. Burlsworth was selected as the 63rd overall pick by the Indianapolis Colts in the 1999 NFL draft, but was tragically killed in a car accident 11 days later.

The award was presented on Monday, Dec. 7 and was given to Mayfield.
Nagurski Trophy
Who is the award for?
The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is given yearly to the National Defensive Player of the Year.
Who is Bronko Nagurski and why does he have an award named after him?
The award is named for legendary two-way player from the University of Minnesota, Bronko Nagurski, who dominated college football then became a star for the Chicago Bears in the 1930s.

When is the award presented?
The award was presented on Monday, Dec. 7 and was awarded to Matakevich.
Lombardi Award
Who is the award for?
The Lombardi Award is given annually to the nation’s top offensive or defensive lineman or linebacker who, in addition to outstanding performance, best exemplifies the discipline of Vince Lombardi.
Who is Vince Lombardi and why does he have an award named after him?
If you are asking yourself this, you may be completely unfamiliar with American football. Anyways, Vince Lombardi won the first two Super Bowls as head coach of the Green Bay Packers and is perhaps the most iconic football coach in the history of the sport.
