The Penn State Nittany Lion Wrestling team blew through Sparty like the blizzard that was dumping on the state of Michigan, shutting out the Spartans by winning all 10 bouts. Let's take a quick look at the carnage...

Galen

125: #8 Jordan Conaway PSU dec. Mitch Rogaliner MSU, 13-6

Conaway and Rogaliner exchanged takedowns/escapes to a 3 all tie.  With 30 seconds left in the 1st, Conaway got his second takedown and rode the period out. Up 5-3, Conaway chose down and quickly escaped to start the 2nd.  Conaway added another takedown and cut Rogaliner only to take him down again to finish off the 2nd.  Rogaliner chose down and got the escape.  Conaway was looking for the major, got a takedown and cut Rogaliner.  Conaway was in again as time ran out but Rogaliner was able to hold the Lion to only a regular decision 13-6.

133: #9 Jimmy Gulibon PSU dec. Garth Yenter MSU, 4-0

Gulibon drew first blood, getting the takedown and riding the 1st period out.  But Gulibon chose down to start the 2nd and had difficulty getting out.  Yenter rode Gulibon for over a minute before getting the escape.  Yenter chose down to start the 3rd and Gulibon rode Yenter tough, getting a stall call and nearly turning the Spartan for backpoints.  But Yenter fought off the turn attempts and there would be no more scoring as Gulibon rode the final period out for the 4-0 victory.

141: Kade Moss PSU dec. Terry Turner MSU, 10-8

Turner took the opening shot and got in on Moss but he fought it off and got a takedown of his own.  After a short ride, Turner escaped only to be taken down again.  Leading 4-2 after 1, Moss chose down and quickly escaped.  Turner caught Moss and took him down to his back for 2 backpoints and a 6-5 lead.  Moss escaped to tie the bout at 6.  Turner chose down and escaped to take a short 7-6 lead.  Moss connected on a low single to take a 8-7 lead of his own.  Moss rode for a short time before Turner escaped to an 8-8 tie.  Turner took a shot that was countered by Moss and turned into the bout winning takedown with 5 seconds on the clock.

149: #18 Zack Beitz PSU maj. dec. Nick Trimble MSU, 13-3

Beitz scored on an ankle pick with 53 seconds to go in the opening period.  A ride-out gave Beitz a 2-0 lead after . Beitz chose down to start the 2nd and worked his way to a reversal and a 4-0 lead. Trimble escaped, but Beitz got another takedown and built up the riding time as the period ended.  After giving up over 2 minutes of riding time, Trimble chose neutral to start the 3rd.  Beitz would add 3 more takedowns and secured the major decision.

157: Cody Law PSU maj. dec. Josh Pennell MSU, 22-11

Law came out shooting, getting 4 takedowns and over a minute in riding time before the end of the 1st period.  Law chose down and quickly escaped to start the 2nd.  Law picked up 2 more takedowns each time, cutting Pennell looking for more.  Law got a little sloppy and gave up a late takedown but went into the 3rd leading 13-7. Pennell chose down and quickly escaped but Law finished off 3 more shots and won 22-11 with the riding time point.

165: Garett Hammond PSU dec. Roger Wildmo MSU, 9-7

Hammond looked to throw Wildmo early but settled for a takedown.  Hammond put on a strong ride and nearly turned Wildmo but the Spartan got the escape.  Wildmo then connected on a takedown of his own and the bout was tied at 3 with a quick Hammond escape.  Wildmo chose down and Hammond was able to build the riding time to over 2 minutes before the escape. Hammond got a late takedown and the score was tied at 5 after the WIldmo escape.  Hammond chose down but was hit for his 3rd caution off a false start and gave up a penalty point.  Hammond escaped to tie the bout at 6 but ducked behind Wildmo for the takedown and lead 8-7 after the Wildmo escape.  Wildmo almost scored as time ran out but Hammond was able to walk away with the 9-7 victory with the riding time point.

174: #3 Matt Brown PSU pinned Nick Proctor MSU, WBF (4:54)

I actually felt bad for Proctor as Matt Brown put on a takedown clinic before finally putting him out of his misery with the pin with 6 seconds left in the 2nd.  That pin puts Matt Brown tied for 11th on the Penn State all-time pin list.

184: #17 Matt McCutcheon PSU dec. John Rizqallah MSU, 8-2

McCutcheon got the first takedown after a long scramble with just 27 seconds left in the first.  A short ride out gave Mouse the early 2-0 lead.  McCutcheon chose down to start the 2nd but Rizqallah rode tough.  McCutcheon eventually got the reversal and added another takedown after a Rizqallah escape.  Rizqallah chose down to start the 3rd and quickly got the escape.  Mouse connected with time running out to take an 8-2 lead.  McCutcheon rode the period out for the victory.

197: #5 Morgan McIntosh PSU dec. Nick McDiarmid MSU, 2-0

McIntosh and McDiarmid traded attempts but neither wrestler scored as the first period came to a close.  McIntosh chose down and got the escape and the 1-0 lead.  Neither wrestler scored as the 2nd ended.  McDiarmid chose down to start the 3rd but McIntosh rode tough, built up over a minute in riding time and closed out the match with the ride-out.

285: #6 Jimmy Lawson PSU dec. Chris Nash MSU, 8-2

With the shut out looking like a possibility Penn State sent out Jimmy Lawson.  Lawson got the initial takedown and built up his riding time before Nash got the escape. Lawson added another takedown and went into the second leading 4-1.  Nash chose down but was unable to escape until there were only 28 seconds left.  Leading 4-2 Lawson chose down and quickly escaped.  Lawson pushed the action, but was unable to get another takedown until the 15 second mark.  A short ride out gave Lawson the 8-2 lead and Penn State its shut out.
