Wendy Laurent figures to play a lot of football this year for the Nittany Lions. BScaff mentioned on this day last year that Laurent stuck with his commitment to Penn State in the summer of 2012. Two years ago, Devon spoke of Laurent's promise as a redshirt-freshman. This season, the 6'2" 292 pound backup center is poised to make a major contribution, although he starts the year behind Angelo Mangiro on the depth chart at center.
Laurent contributed a great deal at a critical time for the team last season. Donovan Smith was unable to play against Northwestern and Michigan last season and Laurent got his first two collegiate starts as a result. He was pressed into service in the fourth quarter of the Ohio State game when Smith again was injured, and was under center during the critical 77-yard drive that tied the game.
