Accomplishing one of the goals he had set upon returning the Penn State, President Eric Barron announced a freeze on in-state tuition, a first in 49 years. Meanwhile, out-of-state tuition will see a rise of 2.99% at main campus, and zero to 2.4% at Commonwealth Campuses. There will be small raises in fees and room and board as well. The only potential downside, if there is one, is the source of the estimated $17 million necessary for this plan was not yet released.
Pan Am Games Medalist: Penn State senior Alyson Ackman earned a bronze medal swimming the third leg of Canada's 4x200m Freestyle Relay at the Pan American Games in Toronto. Fellow senior Melissa Rodriguez and incoming freshman Monika Gonzalez-Hermosillo are also swimming at the Games for Mexico.
Yet another Hackenberg futbol player: Christian's brother, Brandon, has committed to play soccer at Penn State. He looks to fill a spot in the backline that along with goalie commit, Arie Ammann, men's soccer looks to build a stout defense.
Still want more soccer: If you haven't picked up your Ali Krieger or Alyssa Naeher Sports Illustrated covers yet, you can still listen to Ali Krieger on Grantland Sports' podcast talking about the Women's World Cup and ensuing celebration.
Football visits Hershey: Penn State football made their annual visit to Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital to visit, play games, pose for pictures, and sign autographs for the kids, families, and staff.
IT stuff update: Freeh and Penn State were again required to turn over documents in the Paterno lawsuit, at least until they appeal again. Curley, Schultz, and Spanier have successfully limited their testimony in McQueary's whistleblower lawsuit, their criminal trial still has no date.
Just One More Thing: In honor of former-heads-of-the-site Chris and Kevin, download Wilco's latest album, Star Wars, for free.
