Among the changes announced in GoPSUSports.com's massive site redesign today came this little nugget, which detailed a new streaming service that will provide free audio streaming of five major sports including football this Fall. From the release:
Starting this fall, Nittany Lion fans will also enjoy free audio and video streaming via GoPSUnow, Penn State's official audio and video platform. Audio broadcasts of Penn State's football games, voiced by Steve Jones and Jack Ham, will be available free of charge. Home and away men's and women's basketball games, wrestling matches and men's hockey games will also be aired live via GoPSUnow. Head Coach James Franklin's weekly press conference and the Penn State Coaches Show Presented by Pepsi are among the broadcasts that will be free of charge. Several live video events will also be part of the complimentary streaming.
Previously, fans were required to pay $9.95 per month in order to gain "unlimited access" to streaming audio content under the Penn State All-Access program. It doesn't specifically say that basketball, wrestling and hockey audio streams will be "free" in the press release, but Penn State associate director of athletic communications Kristina Petersen clarified to BSD that these events will, in fact, be free of charge.
GoPSUnow will also carry video for other select events, including press conferences and other non-revenue sports which were previously behind the All-Access paywall.
Don't worry hoops fans, you'll still be on the hook for BTN Plus if you want to watch select home games. But you will get Jones and Jerardi for free on GoPSUnow if you don't feel like paying that monthly fee.
