New Rivals100

Rivals released their new 2016 top 100 rankings today, and three Penn State commits made an appearance.

#64 RB Miles Sanders

#93 OL Michal Menet

#97 DE Shane Simmons

The rating for Menet is particularly strange when you consider his rankings on all of the others sites (34th on 247, 22nd on Scout, 57th on ESPN). Is it because Menet didn't attend any of the Rivals training camps? I'll leave that fun question for you all to decide!

As far as Penn State targets remaining in this list, there are only a couple to point out.

#2 DT Rashan Gary

#54 DE Terrell Hall

Of course, these rankings should be in for major facelifts once more, with high school seasons about to begin, so don't get used to these played being ranked where they are right now.

Hunter Johnson Commits to Tennessee

Hunter Johnson is the top ranked pro-style quarterback in the 2017 class, and was at one point, a key target for Penn State. In fact, it was widely believed that his decision would come down to Penn State and Notre Dame. However, the commitment of four star Ohio QB, Sean Clifford, to the Nittany Lions pushed Johnson to focus his attention elsewhere.

However, this could spell trouble for the Nittany Lions in the future. Clifford grew up a Notre Dame fan, and an offer from the Fighting Irish could lead him to re-evaluate his decision. However, that's not something Penn State fans need to be worried about right now.

LaVert Hill Update

LaVert Hill is still committed to Penn State.

Shane Simmons Balls Out in Opening Scrimmage

Shane Simmons and the rest of DeMatha Catholic squad had their pre-season scrimmage against Westfield High School (Chantilly, VA), and Simmons had quite the performance in his team's 35-0 victory. Official stats for the scrimmage aren't available, but we do know that Penn State commit had a pick six in the game. To see it, head to the 1:00 mark of the video below.

Simmons and DeMatha play their season opener against Central Miami Heritage High School this Saturday at noon. For those interested in watching the future Penn State defensive end, the game will be televised by ESPN as part of their 2015 Geico High School Football Kickoff.
