This meeting is the first between the two schools. San Diego State opened the season with an impressive 37-3 win against FCS squad San Diego, but suffered a huge loss at Cal, 35-7. The Aztecs play South Alabama at home this weekend.
San Diego State returns 14 starters, seven on offense and seven on defense. While the squad is not as loaded on defense as Temple, San Diego State still provides a sneakily solid test for an offense that showed promise against Buffalo last Saturday, as the Aztecs were 14th in scoring defense and 19th in total defense last season. SDSU has gotten six interceptions so far in the season, five of which came against San Diego. On the offensive side of the ball, the team is led by junior running back Donnel Pumphrey, who ran for 1,867 yards and 20 touchdowns last season.
