Only Matthew Skoff Until PSU Hockey
The men's hockey team will kick off the season with an exhibition game versus Windsor in twenty-five days. The first regular season game is on October 10th in Buffalo against Canisius. Tickets for the Roar Zone sold out in five minutes last week. It has been a long off-season for the hockey team but also a productive one. Junior Spanish major David Goodwin spent time in Mexico with a host family that spoke only Spanish. Class-act David Glen was named the captain of the team. You may remember that Glen missed time during the 2014 season in order to donate bone marrow.

Our Own Big Cup Of Joe
We all knew this day would come. PSU cult phenom Joe Julius is now a national figure, largely due to his unique figure. Julius was featured in several publications over the weekend while the rest of us were blind with rage over the loss to Temple. This article in Philly.com shared the many outlets that chimed in upon seeing Julius for the first time. One article mentioned that Julius played soccer at 195 pounds but fell off when he stopped playing soccer. His father pointed out that Julius is now trying to take off the extra weight, but also lifting weights, so some of what you see is new-found muscle. Julius' cousin Cody Webster was Big Ten punter of the year in 2013 with Purdue.
It was also announced this week that the partnership between Dunkin' Donuts and Penn State will continue this year. There will be free samples available at three home games, so keep an eye out for the free java.
PSU Line Play Was Offensive But Help Is On The Way
With the awful play against Temple, allowing ten sacks, Penn State is on pace to easily break the record for most sacks allowed in a season (64) set by Pittsburgh in 2011. Rutgers owned the record that was broken by Pitt when it surrendered 61 sacks in 2010. If you are wondering who the offensive line coach for the Scarlet Knights was that year, it was current head coach Kyle Flood.
Thankfully help is on the way. The stellar group of offensive lineman in the 2016 PSU recruiting class are off to a great start in the final year of high school football. Michal Menet, Connor McGovern, Alex Gellerstedt and Will Fries have been in close contact and are ready to join PSU next season.
TWIUN (This week in unpleasant news)
Penn State student Michael Eiben was fatally struck by a vehicle while crossing the intersection of North Atherton and Curtain Road Monday night at around 11 p.m..
A group of Penn State trustees are fighting it out in court with the university over the source material for the Freeh report.
Quick Hits
The men's and women's cross country teams each were victorious in Lock Haven this weekend at the Dolan Duals. Freshman field hockey player Katie Dembrowski was named Big Ten Freshman player of the week. Billy Beard will be joining the PSU swim team next fall. Beard, out of Malvern Preparatory School, is unsurprisingly clean-shaven, which helps to decrease drag in the water. Beard is an Olympic qualifier in the 50 freestyle and 100 fly. Penn State students from the DuBois campus are working to help turtles bask. Building platforms that float for painted turtles to chill out in the sun, the students are improving the habitat at Kyle Lake.
Onward State had a cool article featuring Penn State license plates from various states and vehicles. SWH has a pretty nifty Penn State license plate that can be seen roaming the streets of Sarasota, Florida. Do you have any PSU gear on your car?
