YAY HOOPS: Penn State vs. Michigan Open Thread

The first game of the Madison Square Garden basketball/hockey doubleheader.

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

The Penn State Nittany Lions men's basketball team plays a "home" game today against the Michigan Wolverines at New York City's Madison Square Garden. It is the second meeting of the season between the two teams after Michigan defeated Penn State 79-56 in Ann Arbor on January 2.

Shep Garner is a gametime decision due to an ankle injury that he suffered early in the last game at Ohio State. Payton Banks is also dealing with a back injury, we learned this week. With Josh Reaves still out due to mono, the already thin Nittany Lions could be dealing with a very short rotation at the Garden.

That's not to say Michigan isn't feeling the wear-and-tear of the season. Caris LaVert will not play in the game due to an injury he suffered against Illinois. Still, as Chad noted in the preview, Michigan has the guns and the perimeter shooters to make this one ugly quickly, as we saw in the game at Crisler Arena.

As always, the normal open thread rules apply. No illegal streams, no politics, no pornography, and no general douchebaggery.

Let's go State.
