The 16th U.S. Army All American Bowl will kick off at noon today in San Antonio, Texas, with a little Nittany Lions flavor. Connor McGovern, Brendan Ferns, and Jordan Fuller will all suit up for the East team in today's game. McGovern verbally committed to the Nittany Lions back in March, while Ferns and Fuller are still considering PSU and planning visits to Happy Valley later this month.
These high school All Star games have become a site for many of the country's top prospects to make their verbal commitments. Neither Ferns nor Fuller intend to make that announcement today, with official visits to Penn State and other schools yet to come.
McGovern is a 4-star center hailing from Lehman, PA. He verbally committed to James Franklin and his staff on March 20, 2015, and he has been a strong presence in this year's class. In fact, McGovern took unofficial visits to Penn State for all seven home games this season. You can check out more info on Connor in our Oh, Hello post form his verbal commitment.
Ferns is a 4-star linebacker prospect from St. Clairsville, Ohio. He will take his official visit to Penn State the last weekend of the month. The race for him appears to be down to West Virginia and the Nittany Lions. Ferns' older brother, Michael, is a member of the Mountaineer program, and the Ferns family have been frequent visitors to Morgantown. Despite all of those visits, Brendan has maintained a close relationship with the Penn State staff, especially co-defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Brent Pry.
Fuller is a 4-star athlete from Westwood, New Jersey. He is an incredible athlete who can play just about anywhere, but Penn State is targeting him as a defensive back, looking to add even more athleticism to an already loaded secondary. The Lions are probably playing catch up to Ohio State and Notre Dame in the race for Fuller's services, but he does plan on taking a late-January visit to State College.
Another name that will surely ring a bell is Detroit cornerback Lavert Hill. Hill of course decommitted from Penn State back in November, and now appears to be deciding between Michigan or Michigan State, with other visits set up to Clemson and USC.
