The Tale
The brother of former Penn State wide receiver Christian Kuntz, Zack Kuntz was long thought to be a Nittany Lions lean. But as the recruiting process unfolded, Kuntz began to turn his attention to schools like Notre Dame and Stanford, and it looked as though Penn State would be on the outside looking in. But thanks to a turnaround season in Happy Valley, Kuntz had a renewed interest in the Nittany Lions, and ended up committing to Penn State before the Michigan State game.
The Outlook
With the Nittany Lions not taking a tight end in the 2017 class, they opted to take two in the 2018 class. Kuntz will be joining fellow four-star tight end Pat Freiermuth, which obviously gives Penn State quite the dynamic duo at the position.
Kuntz isn’t your average tight end. He’s a legitimate 6-foot-7 (pushing 6-foot-8), and has the long, lanky frame more of a basketball player than football player. He’ll have to make tremendous strides in the weight room, but other than that, you really can’t ask for much more from an athletic perspective. Kuntz is explosive, has great speed, and isn’t afraid to mix it up as a blocker either. A redshirt year will probably be needed to add mass to his frame, but the sky is limit for him, no doubt.
