Have yourself a day, Trace McSorley.
Following a sterling performance in which he went 17-23 for 376 yards and four touchdowns to lead Penn State to a 45-12 rout of Michigan State, McSorley was named the Big Ten Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
McSorley joins Saquon Barkley as players to win the award this season. He and Barkley become the first Penn State duo to win the award in the same season since 2009 when Daryll Clark and Evan Royster were able to do so.
The performance was McSorley’s best of the season to date and the award marks Penn State’s ninth Big Ten weekly honor of the season, the most in a season since 2012. His 376 yards and four touchdowns are each careers highs. His 389 total yards for the game gave him 3,348 for the season which is a Penn State single-season record, eclipsing Matt McGloin’s previous record of 3,215.
McSorley will have a chance to add to that total on Saturday as Penn State takes on Wisconsin at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship game.
