Kirk of SB Nation believes Penn State has worked its way into the New Year’s Six, putting them in the Orange Bowl against Louisville. Lamar Jackson is a scary dude, but the last time Penn State was in the Orange Bowl, things went pretty well...despite the game lasting two days.

Jerry Palm also goes with a New Year’s Six bowl, but chooses the Cotton Bowl and San Diego State-otherwise known as the Fighting Donnel Pumphrey’s. The Aztecs are 8-1, and face Nevada next week.

Welcome to Sporting News and Fox Sports this week. While Mandel believes the Nittany Lions will head to Arlington to play the Broncos, Bill Bender selects LSU and the Citrus Bowl. Western Michigan is undefeated, and plays 3-6 Kent State this week. After the loss to Alabama, the Tigers sit at 5-3, and play Arkansas this week.

Bonus pick: Sports Illustrated also projects Penn State to play Western Michigan in the Cotton Bowl.

Record in Cotton Bowl: 2-0-1, with a win in 1972 against Texas and 1975 against Baylor, and a tie in 1948 with SMU.

Record in Orange Bowl*: 4-1, with wins in 1969 against Kansas, 1970 against Missouri, 1974 against LSU, and 2006 against FSU, and a loss against Brian Bosworth and Oklahoma in 1986.

Record in Citrus Bowl: 2-3 (Losses to Clemson, Auburn, and Florida-the Curtis Enis suit game, and wins over Tennessee and LSU).
