WRESTLING: No. 1 Penn State Stomps No. 7 Ohio State

A sold out Bryce Jordan Center crowd of 16,000 enjoyed watching our Lions defeat Ohio State.

galen

A packed Bryce Jordan Center for a wrestling dual meet is a remarkable thing. Sixteen-thousand Penn Staters under one roof, relatively quiet for one moment, and exploding, full-throat, in the next as a Penn State wrestler turns a Buckeye for back points - it'll make your skin tingle.

There were a lot of skin-tingling moments Friday night as the top-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions took on 7th-ranked Ohio State, and walloped them 24-14.  The victory pushes Penn State to a perfect 13-0 on the season, and 8-0 in the conference.  Only one dual remains on the conference slate - a home contest against doormat Michigan State.  Barring an act of God, the Nittany Lions will finish the 2015/16 Big Ten schedule unbeaten for the first time in Cael Sanderson's tenure.

Mouse avenged two losses to Courts after a partial ligament tear against Illinois.  Not bad.

Three Completely Random, Probably Useless Thoughts

1) Ohio State had a chance tonight. But in order for them to win, nearly everything had to go wrong for the Nittany Lions--injuries, officiating nightmares, poor performances from their stars. And while the officials turned in average nights, the Buckeyes were unable to capitalize.

2) Once Retherford hit the mat and got his first period pin, it was clear that this PSU team--one of the most dominant we've seen--wouldn't let anything get in their way of winning in front of this sold-out crowd.

3) The Jordan Center takes a lot of crap as a venue - and the place is 20 years old now.  But, when it's packed to the ceiling like it was tonight - whew.  It can still be a pretty special place. But they really need to work on the horrid parking situation on a weekday night.
