Update: This game was confirmed via a press release. The release says that "The event will partner with the Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund, which helps support the education of children of the victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks." Tickets will go on sale on Thursday.

Earlier: According to a report by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, the already rumored game between Penn State and Pittsburgh will take place on December 10 at the Prudential Center in Newark as part of a doubleheader debut for the newly created "Never Forget Tribute Classic." The Penn State-Pitt game will be the second game of the doubleheader, airing on the CBS Sports Network at approximately 2:30 p.m. The first game will be between defending national champions Villanova and its former Big East rival Notre Dame. That game will tip off at noon on CBS.

There had been rumors about a potential neutral site for this Penn State-Pitt game, and we already know how Patrick Chambers makes an effort to schedule games in recruiting areas like New York. Philadelphia, and Washington D.C. With the games supposedly being played on CBS and CBS Sports Network, it's not hard to see how Rothstein scooped this mini-tournament. According to his report, the official announcement of the games should happen soon.

This news comes on the same day that we learned that Penn State will play George Washington in a home-and-home over the next two years. The report of a preseason tournament that will pit the Nittany Lions against Duke was also confirmed today.
