Penn State's 2016 Football Schedule
As of today, we are only 75 days until Penn State welcomes the Kent State Golden Flashes to Happy Valley to kickoff the 2016 season. If that fact alone isn't getting you fired up with the vision of Saquon Barkley touchdown runs dancing in your head, take a quick look at the upcoming schedule for this season. This fall should offer many intriguing match-ups with a laundry list of storylines heading into each contest. But of the 12 regular season contests, which one are you absolutely most excited to watch in 2016?
Obviously, the first match-up against Pitt since 2000 is a strong candidate. Penn State also will face a crucial test in week four when it visits Michigan, and an upset could set the tone for unexpected success in 2016. What about a season-ending contest against the defending Big Ten champion Michigan State Spartans? Iowa and Ohio State both play under the lights in Beaver Stadium this fall, which is always cause for excitement. How about another thrilling puntfest against Indiana?? No? Ok, that's fair.
Personally, I am most excited for the Ohio State game on Oct. 22. Regardless of the circumstances, Ohio State would be my choice as long as they appear on the schedule. As an Ohio native, the strong majority of my family and friends are die-hard Buckeye fans, so having bragging rights for the next year always makes things interesting. Despite coming up short in the Big Ten race last year, there's no argument that Ohio State has been the premiere program of the conference for the past 15 years so it's always a game that comes with a great deal of anticipation.
The fact that the Buckeyes will yet again be a Whiteout night game opponent just adds fuel to the fire. Penn State came oh-so-close to pulling an extremely improbable upset in 2014 under those circumstances- if they came a play or two away (or, ahem, atrocious officiating call) away from beating the Buckeyes with an extremely young squad, why the heck can't they do it in 2016 with far more experience, facing off against an opponent with just six returning starters?
So what say you, BSD reader? Which game has you the most excited for the 2016 season?
