Saturday night the Big 33 Classic was played in Hersheypark Stadium. Pennsylvania defeated Maryland 26-14 with the help of incoming freshman running back phenom Miles Sanders. Sanders posed for a picture with his buddy Zach soon after putting on a stellar performance. Sanders had 7 carries for 73 yards and two touchdowns. He added a touchdown catch of 21 yards for good measure. Jourdan Rodrigue of the Centre Daily declared that the game turned into the Miles Sanders Show.
In Penn State hockey news, two former players have recently signed professional contracts. Curtis Loik will play in Austria, and Connor Varley will play for the Manchester Storm in the United Kingdom. This brings the tally to six players off the 2015-16 team that have signed professional contracts.
We’re really good at a lot of stuff, according to Neil Sharkey. Ben Manning wrote an interesting article detailing that Penn State is not just a Land-Grant university. PSU is also a Sun Grant, Sea Grant, and Space Grant university as well.
Invent Penn State has announced seed-grant funding for six communities. It’s nice to see investment in local communities that will likely pay off tenfold. In other grant news, COIL announced it will fund three new projects through its Research Initiative Grant Program.
Teddy Chase of the women’s soccer team and James Chakey of men’s lacrosse were named 2016 Outstanding Sportsmanship Award Winners.
