De Boef came to Penn State as a walk-on two years ago. After redshirting his freshman season in 2014, he did not see game action in 2015. This season the 6’5”, 269 pound guard/center would have to make a miraculous leap in order to step onto the field as there are many other offensive lineman on the depth chart who were more highly-regarded recruits.
The State College product will likely be counted on as a quality practice player, which is not to say that he will not be needed. The depth of the offensive line has been hindered in recent seasons and that effects the way the team is able to go at one another in practice and drills. His large frame will certainly come in handy when working opposite the younger defensive lineman as they develop as well.
De Boef was not heavily recruited coming out of high school. He looked at Purdue, where his brother Jack played offensive line until 2014, and Penn State. It must have been a relatively easy decision for the 6’4, 239 pound prospect coming out of high school to join the hometown team. One thing that De Boef does have going for him is that, based on his picture at the gopsusports.com site, he looks like Badger from Breaking Bad.
