Fifty days remain until the roar of the crowd hits Beaver Stadium and the Nittany Lions take on the Kent State Golden Flashes! Our featured player today? A Penn State legend at number 50, Jeff Hartings.
We could have really used Jeff Hartings on this team over the past few years. The St. Henry High School product was a two-time All-America selection at guard and a key figure in the Nittany Lions undefeated (mythical) Nation Championship season in 1994. Hartings was so successful up front that he was selected 23rd overall in the 1996 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. He spent the first half of his career in Detroit at guard before shifting cities and positions - he left as a free agent for Pittsburgh in 2001 and moved to center. He retired in 2006 as a 2-time Pro Bowl selection and a Super Bowl Champion.
Feel free to come back any time, Jeff. I’m sure you have some eligibility somewhere deep in the NCAA rules to exhaust.
