Ready for another big scheduling twist for the hoops team? MLive.com earlier today reported that Penn State would be moving its January 7th home affair with Michigan State to Philadelphia’s famed Palestra building. While neither school has confirmed this change of venue (as of the time this post is being written), it seems like an official announcement should be coming shortly.
Presuming this isn’t some terrible Internet hoax, this is another scheduling win for Pat Chambers’ crew. Not only do they move an early January home game against a quality Big Ten opponent from what would’ve been a lifeless, cavernous, student section-less Bryce Jordan Center (PSU students will just be coming back from the end of Winter Break around that time) to an intimate, historic, arena in what many would call the Mecca of basketball, but they do so in an area where Chambers and his staff are seeking to continue making recruiting in-roads in. The fact that PSU’s roster currently boasts six players from the Philly area (Nazeer Bostick, Tony Carr, Lamar Stevens, Shep Garner, and Julian Moore, and Mike Watkins) probably won’t be lost upon careful observers, either.
Regardless of the outcome, this is yet another exciting development regarding the upcoming hoops season and one that should have every basketbro giddier than a teenage slumber party.
