Only 41 days until kickoff!

Our spotlight today is on #41 redshirt junior Parker Cothren, a 6’4” 290 lb defensive tackle from the class of 2013.

Originally a defensive end, Cothren was heavily recruited from Huntsville, Alabama’s Hazel Green High School. Cothren received offers from Arkansas State, Auburn, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Purdue (just to name a few), ultimately committing to Penn State on Nov. 20 2012.

After taking a redshirt in 2013, Cothren made a solid impact when he hit the field, playing in all 13 games in his freshman redshirt season in 2014, with 11 tackles and 2.5 TFLs. As if that weren’t enough, he was selected honorable-mention Big Ten All-Freshman Team by BTN.com and named to the Academic All-Big Ten.

Building on 2014’s success, last year Cothren recorded 13 tackles, a .5 TFL/combined sack, and a nice blocked extra point attempt vs. Northwestern. Playmaker Cothren will certainly be one to watch for 2016. Good luck, Parker!
