Andrew Nelson arrived on campus in 2013 and took a redshirt in his first season. Since then he’s been a fixture on the line for Penn State. He started 13 games as a redshirt freshman at tackle for an offensive line that had many issues. That line had 99 problems but Nelson wasn’t one.
Following his first season on the field, Nelson was named to the Freshman All-American second team by Scout and Athlon Sports. ESPN, 247sports and the Big Ten Network named him to the first team All-Freshman Big Ten team. His career was off to a great start.
Last season Nelson was the most consistent player on the offensive line. That doesn’t say much, unfortunately, considering the way that our line played, but he would have been considered a solid lineman on any team in the Big Ten. He missed four games while injured, but started eight games and was one of the more reliable blockers for the team. He is expected to anchor the line this year.
The 6’6”, 300 pound tackle out of Hershey, Pa. has been a Penn State fan for his entire life. He has five family members that attended PSU. He is a great student as well, having earned All-Big Ten Academic honors for the past two years. Nelson also knows how to have a good time, as he had some fun at the beach over the July 4th weekend.
Only 59 more days until Penn State football!
