We're Number One Penn State has been named the most active college in the nation in a study by the National College of Sports Medicine.  The study looked at factors such as the walkability of the campus, as well as number and variety of fitness opportunities and classes offered.  Penn State beat out Kansas State and Tennessee for the top honor.

Increasing Our Influence Last year, it was announced that Phil Knight's successor as Nike CEO and chairman of the board would be Penn State Alum  Mark Parker. Parker, who had already taken over the role of CEO from Knight, officially became chairman of the board when Knight officially resigned his post on June 30.  It's been a great twelve months for Parker, as aside from becoming the most powerful man in the footwear and sports apparel industry, he was named the Fortune Businessman of the Year last November.

He Must Like Rings Alabama redshirt freshman quarterback Blake Barnett made waves over the weekend when he proposed to his professional surfer/model girlfriend Maddie Peterson.  Barnett is in contention for the Alabama starting job, and, judging by her Instagram profile, she has potential to be the next Katherine Webb, who rose to fame during the telecast of the Alabama vs Notre Dame national championship game as the girlfriend, and now wife, of Tide quarterback AJ McCarron.

Hockey Valley Three former Penn State players have signed professional contracts in the last few days.  Former Nittany Lion Defenseman Luke Juha signed with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders.  Penn State great Casey Bailey signed a one year deal with the Ottawa Senators. Finally, netminder PJ Musico signed a one year deal with the Greenville Swamp Rabbits, the ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers.

New Additions It's been quite a 12 months for Penn State Women's Soccer Coach Erica Walsh Dambach. She captured the program's first national title and her first national title last December,  got married to Jason Dambach in January, and today welcomed her first child to the world, Addison Jeanne Dombach.
