With merely 24 days to go until Penn State’s season opener against Kent State, we’re honoring one of the most heralded incoming freshmen since Christian Hackenberg arrived in Happy Valley just a few short years ago. While Miles Sanders will not be immediately thrust into a starting role, thanks to one Mr. Saquon Barkley, the nation’s top high school running back will get his share of opportunities throughout the season to show why he was deserving of such a billing.
Miles was the very first verbal commitment in PSU’s 2016 recruiting class, committing a full year and a half prior to signing day on July 19, 2014. Shane Simmons would follow suit 11 days later, as the two of them would go on to become the cornerstones of which the incoming freshman class was built upon. Pitt and Michigan State stayed hot on his tail, but ultimately Sanders held firm and faxed his Letter of Intent this past February, giving PSU arguably its deepest stable of running backs since the days when Ki-Jana Carter, Mike Archie, and Stephen Pitts were on the roster in the mid-1990’s.
As an added bonus, you can catch a clip of Miles showcasing his talents at the 29-second mark of the video below:
