Chalk this one up to the satellite camps. Hippenhammer camped for the Nittany Lion coaching staff at the Bowling Green camp, landing an offer from Penn State just a few days later on June 19. Hippenhammer then made his way to Happy Valley for the Lasch Bash. But following a visit to Iowa, he surprisingly named the Hawkeyes his leader. In the end, the Nittany Lions made up enough ground, securing Hippenhammer’s verbal commitment.
Hippenhammer is the 7th ranked prospect in Indiana, the 112th wide receiver in the country, and the 761st best player overall in the country, according to 247Sports Composite. Hippenhammer is the 15th member of Penn State’s 2017 recruiting class, and joins Cameron Sullivan-Brown as the second pass catcher in the class.
The Outlook
While his name is terrific enough, I think Hippenhammer is an underrated prospect. For a mid-three-star, he doesn’t really have any major deficiencies. He’ll need to add some weight, but other than that, he’s a very good looking wide receiver. Good athlete, but more than anything, he’s natural football player — runs good routes, elusive, etc. Plus, he gives you the versatility to play outside or move inside and play the slot, which is always a positive.
Welcome to Penn State, Mac!
