Deion Barnes is one of the many defensive linemen who had an impact on the team the minute they stepped on the field.
In 2012, his redshirt freshman season, Barnes started in eight games and appeared in all 12. He had 27 total tackles, 15 of which were solo. He added 10 tackles for loss and six sacks to his total, along with three forced fumbles. His performance earned him Freshman of the Year honors in the Big Ten, as well as first-team Freshman All-American honors.
2013 was a bit of a letdown year for Barnes, but started 10 games. He had 28 tackles (12 solo), 4 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks.
Barnes had a bounce-back year in 2014, starting in every game and almost doubling his tackle production with 44. He also matched his career-high six sacks that season, and had 12.5 tackles for loss to boot.
Barnes signed an undrafted free agent deal with the New York Jets, and is currently on their practice squad. Good luck Deion!
