Ladies and gentlemen, the starting quarterback of your 2016 Penn State Nittany Lions....Mr. Trace McSorley!
The redshirt sophomore made a name for himself while tossing two touchdown passes in a late rally against Georgia in the TaxSlayer Bowl, and followed that up with a brilliant performance in the Blue-White Game where he appeared to be in complete command of the offense while rarely making any missteps throughout the afternoon— something that garnered him plenty of hype for player with limited experience.
Standing at 6’0’’ and 201 lbs., McSorley doesn’t have the ideal size for a Power 5 starting quarterback. But what seems to set McSorley apart are the intangibles that separate the average quarterbacks from the standouts. Coaches and teammates have raved about his leadership, suggesting he has complete command of the huddle and possess that quality that motivates teammates to give it their all each and every play. McSorley also has an excellent feel for the game (at least based on a small sample size), remaining poised in the pocket and finding the open man to keep the chains moving. While he may not launch the ball 60 yards in the air, he seems to have the ability to dink-and-dunk his way down the field with short-to-mid-range passes that keep defenses on their toes.
Welcome to the McSorley era.
Just nine more days until Penn State Football!!
