While we’ve been staffing up in other sports, we’ve wanted to expand some on the hockey front (Chris Taylor can only do so much). We’ve finally done that with the addition of Colin Piatt. Colin, in his own words:
Hello, Black Shoe Diaries! My name is Colin Piatt. I will be completing my degree in Print Journalism and my minor in French from Penn State University this fall. I began my college career at Penn State Berks, where I covered ice hockey and softball, among other campus and University related events, for the Berks Collegian.
I am formerly a writer and sports chief for the Daily Collegian, having covered women’s ice hockey, club sports, and most recently men’s ice hockey, during which time I discovered that college hockey can often be more entertaining than professional hockey.
I’ve loved ice hockey for as long as I can remember, and played from when I was four years old until my freshman year of college. Having played goalie since I was nine, my ultimate goal was to be the next Martin Brodeur. While that didn’t go as planned, covering the sport has become my passion in life.
I come from a Penn State family. My father, also a Penn State journalism major, and sister both have degrees from the University. My mother works at the Wilkes-Barre campus as the Student Activities Coordinator. Upon attending Penn State, I began following college sports more closely. I quickly grew fond of the atmosphere at Beaver Stadium as a fan and Pegula Ice Arena as both a fan and reporter. Covering ice hockey professionally has become my career goal, and I look forward to beginning that career with the Black Shoe Diaries.
