The First Page of a New Chapter

The women’s volleyball season begins tonight when it takes on West Virginia in Rec Hall at 7 p.m. Take a look at the preseason primer put together. The team will square off on Saturday at 10 a.m with Georgia Southern and then later at 7 p.m. with North Carolina. All of the games will be available via BTN plus, which requires a subscription. It’s a bummer to have to purchase a $10 per month subscription but it is worth it for avid fans. Many other sports such as hockey, soccer, wrestling and basketball have games only seen on BTN plus and it is possible to get your money’s worth if you watch 5 or more games per month.

The men’s soccer team will begin the season in Palo Alto, California when it takes on No.1 Stanford at 8 p.m. The team will take on California at 6 p.m. on Sunday. Each game will be televised on the Pac 12 Network. There are higher than normal expectations placed on the team this season, but the Cardinal, on the road, will be a tough first challenge.

Hockey News

There hasn’t been much Penn State hockey news to report during the off-season, and like most other sports, that is the best news possible. Move-in day earlier this week has the team in place and ready to begin the final stretch-run in preparation for the season that begins in just 36 more days. The team is in the process of assessing the players during the annual preseason fitness test. This will be the first time in four years that Connor Varley will not be given the distinction of Top Preseason Athlete, as he graduated in the spring.

It has been a point of speculation as to whether the newest division one hockey entrant, Arizona State, would end up joining the Big Ten. That scenario seems to be over for now as the Sun Devils have made it known that the hockey team will apply for membership to join the NCHC. The conference currently has some of the best programs in all of college hockey, including St. Cloud State, Denver, and last season’s national champion North Dakota. Minnesota State applied for membership to the conference as well earlier this year.

Penn State will unveil a virtual reality channel to allow fans to get an even better look as their favorite teams compete. Check out this map of the hometown of each player in division one college football. Fox Sports put out an interesting list of second-generation college football players. USA Today put out a comparison of each college football conference. Can you guess which one rated the highest?
