For those planning on attending the game against Kent State this weekend, you will encounter some new security protocols in order to get into the stadium. Metal detection wands are being introduced, so it might be time for you to invest in a plastic flask and leave your classy metal one behind.
Former Penn State star Derrick Williams will be on the sidelines again this fall, as he joins the Penn State Sports Network team for radio coverage of the football games. He’ll be teaming up with Steve Jones and Jack Ham who are in their 17th season of covering Penn State football. Of course, he won’t be playing, but hopefully Williams’ performance inspires some Special Teams touchdowns this year.
Red-shirt freshman tight end Nick Bowers suffered a setback recently and will miss the entire season. The team has not released specifics regarding the news, but it is suspected to be injury-related. This is a tough blow to an inexperienced TE group, as Bowers was expected to make an impact this year. We wish Nick a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him play next year.
